Just wanted to say that I enjoyed it very much. When can I have a copy
of your thesis? Also, I would appreciate a copy of your slides and
script. (A .xgp file or pointer thereto would suffice.)

Well, I really enjoyed your presentation. When exactly do you migrate
to Carnegie? [I am still hoping we can find some possible time for more
leisurely conversation. The last [and next] few weeks have been manifold
impossible.

I am trying to track down some notes I had from E. Koppelman about the
kinetics of discovery in mathematics that might be a bit more illuminating
than Poincare and Hadamard. Or have you already run into her name, which
might save me some tedious search?
Josh Lederberg

PS Gian-Carlo Rota is editing a new encyclopedia of mathematics; and it
just occurred to me that you would be just right to deal with the heuristics
of discovery, with AM as a balancing instance. If I can persuade his committee,
is that the kind of task you would enjoy?

When are you leaving for points East (Pittsburgh, etc.)?
When were you planning to return? If we could find
the money to increment your trip from one of your
visit points to New Jersey for the AIM Workshop, and pay for your
room and board, could you go?

I was so impressed with your beautifully prepared Oral
Exam talk that I would like to arrange a special evening
session at the AIM Workshop at which you could could present
it for a wider audience and discuss your work.

I tried to reach you several times by phone but you are an ephemeral.

Doug,

Thanx for the message. I will be attending the AIM workshop at
Rutgers that week, but will probably not leave PGH until June 2. So
perhaps we can meet on June 1. I'll also be in NY the next week
(Monday and Tuesday) at the NCC.

I was at Stanford last week and looked for you (but missed you).

Lee

P.s. In general, it's better to send me mail at CMU-10B, rather than
CMU-10A.

∂24-MAY-76 1236	DRB hello
I never got the chance last night to wish you well on your trip. We hope
to hear on your return that you have a house, two cars ordered, butler and
maid service, a chauffer, and 77 graduate students who want you to advise
them. Any way, have fun and I'll see you on the 9th. If I'm wrong about
the date, don't worry: it's because the envelope with the key is at home
and I'm up at the lab. Incidently, which car is the key for??

Ed Feigenbaum wants a copy of your thesis to give to ledergerg. I looked
at your directory *.XGP[*,DBL] and couldn't find the right file anywhere.
Does it exist somewhere or have you deleted the pub'd version?

I WANT TO WORK ON YOUR THESIS BUT I CANT. BECAUSE LEDERBERG
ASKED FOR A COPY AND I GAVE HIM MINE. CAN YOU GET ME A FRESH COPY.
ONE WAY TO DO IT IS TO BRING BY A COPY AND HAVE PHYLLIS XEROX IT.

You might be interested in copying <larson>directory before I delete it.
It contains names, locations, office and home phone numbers of all the
siglunch people, plus a few others.

Thank you for having the potluck lunch last Friday. I will miss
all of you. I will probably be in to help Phyllis a few times during
the summer ... so I won't say good-bye.

I will be practicing my talk for the oral exam on Tuesday at
noon in the AI Lab conference room. I hope you can come; it
should last until no later than 1:30. The oral itself will
be at 2:00 (maybe 2:15) on Wednesday, June 2 in the Serra
House conference room. You are, of course, invited.

is it fit to use right now?
